UPDATE: 2nd IAA Conference on Space Systems as Critical Infrastructure

on 26 August 2013

Between 29 and 30 August 2013 the Romanian Space Agency (ROSA) together with the International Academy of Astronautics (IAA) are organizing the 2nd Conference on Space Systems as Critical Infrastructure at the Golden Tulip Hotel in Mamaia, Black Sea, Romania. The symposium aims to explore how much we depend on satellites to support our most critical infrastructure and to live modern and mobile lives. Interested participants are invited to submit a paper for presentation.

With increasing dependence on space-based services, the ability to protect space infrastructure has become essential to our society. Any shutdown of even a part of space infrastructures could have significant consequences for the well-functioning of economic activities and our citizens' safety, and would impair the provision of emergency services.

The symposium will facilitate debates on topics such as: estimating the critical dependence of basic Earth activities on the functioning of space systems and evaluating vulnerabilities of space systems against natural and terrorist threats. A main objective of the event is to produce recommendations using a quantitive approach for space agencies and political stakeholders regarding actual utilization and future needs of critical space systems.

Interested participants are invited to contribute a paper for prezentation at the symposium. A one-page, single-spaced abstract of no less than 300 and no more than 500 words must be submitted by 5 August 2013, at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. . Abstracts should be in English and should include the symposium topic addressed, the problem explored, the methodology used, results and conclusions.

All participants are invited to use the registration page of the symposium from the Romanian Space Agency Conference System. A registration fee in the order of €80 will cover admission to the sessions, the symposium digest, a copy of the proceedings published after the symposium, coffee breaks and lunch.
