The objective of this activity is to design, manufacture and test a breadboard of a 25W class Ka-band (27 to 31 GHz) packaged Monolithic Microwave Integrated Circuit (MMICs). The high-power amplifier module will provide DC and RF interfaces for easy integration at system level.Targeted Improvements:- Enabling a European 25W class Ka-band power amplifier module not existing today in Europe-DecreasedDescription: With the recent developments in Ka-band satellite communication systems, there is a need for higher power user terminals and up-links used for ground applications. Such terminals usually involve a combination of several solid-state power amplifier monolithic microwave integrated circuits (MMICs) to achieve high power levels, ranging from tens to several hundreds of watts, necessary to maintain the continuous connection of the link and comply with system budget requirements. However, today there is no European 25W class MMIC at Ka band as needed for professional up-link stations. In addition, a package solution is needed in order to provide the thermal management which assures the required device lifetime. This activity will design, manufacture and test a breadboard of a packaged 25W class Gallium Nitride (GaN) MMIC. The RF and thermal design will take into account the MMIC to package interfaces.
