ESA Open Invitation to Tender: 1-11457
Open Date: 15/09/2022 13:08 CEST
Closing Date: 10/11/2022 13:00 CEST
Launchers have traditionally used tactical INS (Inertial Navigation System) for navigation purposes. In the last decade, GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite Systems) have been incorporated, first for having an independent trajectory for post-mission analysis, later for having an additional independent tracking system supporting the flight termination system and more recently integrated with the INS as part of the GNC (Guidance, Navigation and Control) system in support of improved injection accuracy for multi-burn missions, reusable launchers, small launchers, etc.Due to the critical nature of a launch system, the GNSS/INS system used for GNC needs to operate in a robust way in the launch environment (high dynamics including attitude changes, shocks during stage separation, antenna shadowing by the launcher structure...). In particular, the GNSS/INS needs to be robust to unintentional and intentional interferee(i.e. jamming) as well as spoofing attacks for which no specific mitigation means are being included in current developments of new launchers. Robustness against scintillation needs also to be achieved.New concepts technologies will be investigated including:- GNSS antenna array processing for jammer/spoofer nulling- Deeper/adaptive GNSS/INS integration including INS-aided GNSS receiver.-Receiver level integrity such as RAIM (Receiver Autonomous Integrity Monitoring). This activity encompasses the following tasks:- Identify relevant launcher scenarios and assess the robustness of current systems against the different effects.- Derive new requirements on the GNSS/INS system on the robustness against jamming/spoofing.- Design and develop new architectures/techniques to overcome the identified vulnerabilities (GNSS antenna array, GNSS/INS integration, receiver internal checks...).- Validate and assess the performance of the developed techniques via simulations.- Validate the concept in a lab environment using data acquired from a RFGNSS constellation simulator and integrated INS simulator.
