The Romanian teams qualified in the IRISS robotics competition organised by ESA

on 27 March 2015

Four teams of Romanian students aged 11-19 years have qualified for the next stage of the second space robotics competitions organised by the European Space Agency (ESA), IRISS. The teams were selected following a letter of intent sent to ESA, accompanied by a video presentation of the team, of the strategy they will adopt for their robot and of any hardware prototype that they had built.

The challenge is to design a robot that can move cargo from one end of an International Space Station (ISS) mock-up to another. More details on this topic are available here.

The selected Romanian teams are:

ELITE from the "Dragos Voda" National College in Câmpulung Moldovenesc, Suceava, coordinating teacher Gabriel Atanasiu. The presentation of the team is available here.

Team 1 from "Dacia" Secondary School, Oradea, coordinating teacher Valentina Matei. The presentation of the team is available here.

I-Robot from Nicolae Balcescu High School in Cluj Napoca, coordinating teacher Carmen Cotop. The presentation of the team is available here.

RO-SAT ONE Junior from Piatra Neamt, coordinating teacher Diana Cristina Bejan. The presentation of the team is available here.

Until 22 May the teams mus submit their design review documentation, including the design of their robot, so that their projects can be rated. The grand final will take place in December at ESTEC, the European Space Research and Technology Centre (ESTEC), The Netherlands.
