Applications are open for the ESA Summer Teachers Workshop 2015

on 02 March 2015

The Romanian Space Agency (ROSA) invites Romanian teachers to apply for the 'Summer Teachers Workshop 2015' organised by the European Space Agency (ESA) from 8 to 10 July 2015 at ESA’s European Space Research and Technology Centre (ESTEC) in Noordwijk, the Netherlands. The workshop is dedicated to both primary and secondary school teachers of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) subjects residing and working in ESA Member or Cooperating States. The deadline for application is Friday 3 April 2015.

The workshop will cover space themes such as gravity, Rosetta, comets and the Solar System, Planet Earth, Light or space exploration and human spaceflight. Articulated around these themes, the workshop programme is aimed at providing an inspirational professional development opportunity. Primary and secondary school teachers will attend plenary sessions hosted by the scientists and engineers working on ESA’s exciting space endeavours, who will set the scenery and give an insight into the latest ESA missions and cutting-edge space research.

The participants will also have the opportunity to follow separate practical sessions dedicated to their respective target age-groups of students, where they will explore and discuss experiments and demonstrations that can be used in the classroom.

In addition, participants will have the opportunity to network with experts in education and peers from across Europe.

Terms and conditions for applying

Due to the increasing interest demonstrated by teachers in the previous editions, the number of participants this year has been increased to 120; priority will be given to teachers who have not participated in ESA’s previous teacher workshops.

The working language of the workshop will be English, and therefore it is only open to participants who master the language. A self-assessment of the English level can be made at this link.

Teachers wishing to participate in the workshop should complete the online application form, where they should briefly describe why they would like to attend the workshop. Teachers will be selected to attend the workshop based on the information provided in the online application form.

The deadline for receipt of applications is 3 April 2015. Successful applicants will be informed that they have secured a place at the workshop on or before 16 April 2015.

There is no fee to participate in the workshop. ESA will arrange and sponsor the costs of local transport from Noordwijk to/from ESTEC, lunch and refreshments for all selected participants during the workshop, as well as one social dinner. The transport back to the hotel or airport will not be covered by ESA.

Participants are expected to cover the full cost of their travel to and from the Netherlands, their hotel accommodation and the cost of evening meals, with the exception of the social dinner offered by ESA.
