Mirror, space mirror

on 26 April 2022

The Romanian Space Agency (ROSA) and ESERO Romania invite primary school teachers and students to use the new educational resource "Mirror, Space Mirror - Let's make a segment of the main mirror of the James Webb Space Telescope", within the "Teach with Space" programme.

This activity provides a step-by-step guide on how to create an origami hexagon. The activity is related to the primary mirror of the James Webb Space Telescope, which consists of 18 woven hexagons.

Students can work individually or in groups to fold the hexagons, then attach them together to create a complete representation of the telescope's primary mirror.

This activity is intended for students between 8 and 15 years old (and not only) and aims to provide understanding on how telescopes work and how astronomers use them. Learners will identify and understand some features and functions of telescope mirrors. The activity also stimulates creativity while working independently or in groups.
