The Final of the National Rover Competition, EXO-RO, Bucharest, 26-30 March 2021

on 26 March 2021

The Romanian Space Agency (ROSA) in synergy with the European Space Education Resource Office (ESERO) Romania and with the help of INCAS - National Institute for Aerospace Research "Elie Carafoli", are organising the final of the fourth edition of the National Rover Competition Exo-RO.

The event will take place between 26-30 March in a hybrid format: the teams will control the rovers and support their project remotely from their own command center at home, via the internet, while the jury will be on the field. The long - awaited moment of the exploration day, when the rovers will start the route hosted by INCAS Bucharest, will take place on 27 March.

Seven mixed teams of girls and boys passionate about robotics from all over the country will have to complete two important missions, within the scenario of exploring an unknown planet proposed by the organizers.

The National Rover Competition Exo-RO is in its fourth edition. The scenario and the explored landscape are being changed every year, so that children have to respond to new challenges. The first edition took place at the Muddy Volcanoes from Buzău County, in a moon-like landscape, the following edition took place at Salina Târgu Ocna in Bacău County, and in the centenary year the competition moved to the former water plant from Timișoara.

The goals of the Exo-RO Competition are to arouse the interest of young people in the space field and to increase the quality of education through the development of professional skills. The education of the young generation is an important concern of both the Romanian Space Agency (ROSA) and the European Space Agency (ESA), which are also collaborating in the ESERO project that uses space as a gateway for STEM subjects (science, technology, engineering, mathematics), arousing young people's interest for careers in these fields.

The press will be able to attend, on a confirmation basis only, the exploration day on 27 March, at INCAS, Maniu Boulevard 220, Bucharest.
