A group of Romanian students and teachers visited ESA’s ESRIN center

on 21 June 2017

41 students and 13 teachers from "Grigore Moisil" high school in Timisoara visited the European Space Agency’s ESRIN center, located in Frascati, Italy. The visit was coordinated by Mr. Moise Jurca, Qualtech CEO. Mr. Florin-Corneliu Belea coordinated the school group.

ESRIN was established in 1966 and it is known as the ESA Centre for Earth Observation, one of the five ESA specialised centres in Europe. The world’s largest database of environmental data for both Europe and Africa is managed from ESRIN.

During the visit, ESA employees offered useful and insightful information about part of ESA’s space projects. They talked about the skills and opportunities for a career in the space sector, as well as about living and working on the International Space Station. Cristina Surdu and Abdula Hayret of Romanian nationality talked to the students about Earth Observation.

The students participated in activities involving 3D printing and 3D photos and videos. They also visited CREOP, the Control Room for Earth Observation Payloads.

The visit lasted for about 5 hours and helped Romanian students passionate about space to better understand how it is to work at the European Space Agency, an organisation where Romania is a full Member State.

The visit of “Grigore Moisil” group was a very nice experience, which we consider that it complements our collaboration with ESA – ESRIN, focused on software solutions partnerships. I would like to thank the ESRIN team for the welcome and the organisation of the whole event. I would also like to thank the accompanying teachers and the high school management for their cooperation and involvement in making this visit possible. We hope to continue enjoying such events and I am convinced that both we and the students have seen and learnt a lot during the visit”, declared Mr. Jurca.
