ESA challenge for primary school pupils: Train like an astronaut!

on 04 November 2016

The Romanian Space Agency (ROSA) invites primary school teachers in Romania to enroll their class in the Mission X challenge organised by the European Space Agency (ESA), which will offer the students the opportunity to train next to ESA’s astronaut, Thomas Pesquet, and his colleagues. The deadline to register is 31 December 2016.

The international challenge Mission X is addressed to students with ages of 8 to 12 years old. The event is focused around the idea of healthy eating and fitness, two very important aspects for the astronauts. The participants will learn about coordination, stamina, spatial awareness and strength, as well as how to be part of a team and do science involving nutrition and space technology.

Mission X is a common project carried out by NASA, ESA and other participant agencies and, during the six-week training, the students will learn how to get fit like the astronauts. The activities performed by each of the participant class will be turned into points, which will help the teams to send Astro Charlie, the competition’s mascot, to the Moon and back.

Mission X will start on 16 January. Those interested can find out details on each team’s progress on the official website of the event.

In order to register in the competition, please access this link, using the registration code RUBINS2017, and for the registration type, please select “Challenge 2”, which stands for the session carried out in January 2017.
