World Space Week 2015 witnessed a record number of 1,877 of events in 73 countries around the world, surpassing the previous record of almost 1600 events. At national level, World Space Week is coordinated by the Education Department of the Romanian Space Agency (ROSA).
With 108 events organised in 2015, Romania was among the top five most active countries in the world. The theme for 2015 was ”Discovery”, in celebration of the progress achieved by humanity in deep space exploration and the vast amount of knowledge accrued over the past decade.
World Space Week is an international celebration of science and technology, and their contribution to the betterment of the human condition.
The UN declared World Space Week (WSW) to be celebrated annually, between 4-10 October marking the launch into outer space of the first human-made Earth satellite, Sputnik I, thus opening the way for outer space exploration and the entry into force of the Treaty on Principles Governing the Activities of States in the Exploration and Use of Outer Space, including the Moon and Other Celestial Bodies.
World Space Week is open to all. Public institutions, businesses, nonprofit organisations, teachers and even individuals can organise events to celebrate space.
