Introductory course on space activities and technologies for Mathematics and Physics teachers, Marisel, 31 August 3 September 2015

Between 31 August – 3 September 2015,the European Space Education Resource Office - Romania(ESERO Romania) is organising an introductory course on space activities and technologies dedicated to Mathematics and Physics teachers from the secondary or high school education system in Romania.

The course will be held in Marisel, Cluj County, and aims to use outer space as an attractive context for teaching STEM subjects (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics). Those interested in participating can register until 18 August 2015.

The course will cover topics ranging from the presentation of ESERO Romania, a collaboration between the Romanian Space Agency (ROSA) and the European Space Agency (ESA) and the ESA educational resources to astronomy basics, Earth's artificial satellites, space telecommunications basic concepts, CanSat etc.

Participants will also engage in practical activities such as reception of low frequency electromagnetic waves, voice signal transmission through elastic cords, using GPS receivers to determine the exact time and geographic coordinates etc. and will have the opportunity to visit the Scientific and Technological Research Center of BITNET CCSS.

The course addresses Mathematics or Physics teachers from secondary or high school education in Romania, who will have to demonstrate competence and interest to disseminate the knowledge and experience gained during the course to other middle school and high school teachers and to a large number of students, during „pedagogical clubs" for teachers and excellence groups of students or similar bodies, to attract more students to science and space technology. The selection of participants will be done taking into consideration also an equitable geographical distribution.

The course will take place at the 'Popasul Iancului' hotel in Marisel (www.turismmarisel.ro) and at the Marisel Astronomical Observatory in Cluj County, and the costs of tuition, accommodation in a double room and meals for three days - 31 August to 3 September 2015 and transport Marisel - Cluj roundtrip by bus is provided by the organisers. Transportation from the place of residence to Cluj and back is the responsibility of the participant.

Teachers who wish to apply to get one of the 20 places available on the course should complete the registration form and send it at esero [@] rosa [.] ro until 18 August 2015. Applicants will be informed regarding the selection on 20 August 2015.
