ESA has conducted many wave interaction activities whereby the final delivery included algorithm descriptions (atbds - Algorithm Theoretical Baseline Document) and a prototype code implementation. There is a need to build a consistent framework for the algorithms to enable its use for running and planned missions, but also in the context of supporting module implementation within performance simulators. This tool would also allow to support the Earth science application developments in community prototyping environments (e.g. Cloud-based platforms).In principle both optical and microwave domains can be covered in both forward and inversion direction but the activity's initial focus will be placed on developing a viable toolbox implementing active microwave forward and retrieval models for use in common frequency bands used in space-borne SAR systems (L-, C-, X-band). In addition, the initial focus will be on land applications. The following will need to be implemented in the first version of the toolbox: Soil and vegetation models for widely different vegetation structures (including those covered in agricultural practice), soil moisture algorithms, snow and land ice.This activity encompasses the following tasks:- Review of available at bds;- For a number of applications, select the algorithms to be implemented;- In parallel to the above, define a toolbox architecture;- To implement and validate the toolbox functionality for a selection of models/algorithms;The resulting toolbox will allow users to arrive to increased robustness in Earth science application areas.The output consists of a consolidated software toolbox and its documentation.Procurement Policy: C(3) = Activity restricted to SMEs RD Entities.
